Feeling stuck at work - Part 1

Feeling "stuck" at work is like being trapped in quicksand; frustrating, isolating and uncertain.

It's a struggle to move forward, and you might feel even if you do, that you’re not sure if that will get you back onto solid ground.

Here is one type of “stuck feeling at work and what you can do about it right now….

"I have been in my role a long time but haven't progressed"

  • Make your aspirations known: Be proactive in expressing your desire for more senior responsibilities to your manager and the organization. Don't wait to be noticed; take the initiative and communicate your career ambitions.

  • Seek feedback: If you've faced rejections when applying for senior positions, seek feedback on areas where you can improve. Utilize this feedback to create a targeted development plan that focuses on enhancing both your technical and soft skills.

  • Pursue growth opportunities: Look for training programs or seek mentorship to fill any technical gaps. If soft skills require enhancement, consider in what environment you may be able to practice these skills to improve them.

  • Regularly discuss your development: Keep an open line of communication with your manager and discuss your development plan regularly. This ensures alignment and helps you stay on track for future opportunities.

A Career Coach can be a valuable resource to help you structure conversations with your manager, identify the best growth opportunities, and provide guidance on developing your soft skills.
